Microsoft's new Surface Pro and Laptop arrive with Snapdragon X2 Plus and 5G

Microsoft unveiled two new Surface devices at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit on September 23: a redesigned 12-inch Surface Pro and a 13-inch Surface Laptop, both powered by the new Snapdragon X2 Plus processor. The machines go on sale October 13, 2026.

The Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $1,149.99 and brings a PixelSense display that is 25 percent brighter at 500 nits. It delivers up to 17 percent faster performance in Office workloads and more than 60 percent faster graphics versus the previous generation. An optional 5G model is available — Microsoft says it was among the most frequently requested additions. The device also introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-powered pen experience for sketching and annotation built around the Snapdragon X2 Plus NPU.

The Surface Laptop 13-inch starts at $1,199 and claims 22.5 hours of battery life under local video playback. Like the Pro, its 3:2 PixelSense display is 25 percent brighter, and the Snapdragon X2 Plus NPU is up to 95 percent faster at local AI inferencing than the previous generation. Both devices use recycled aluminum in their construction.

What the Snapdragon X2 Plus brings

Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus is the follow-up to the X Elite and X Plus chips that shipped in 2024 and 2025 Surface devices. The X2 Plus features a refreshed NPU rated at significantly higher AI performance — crucial as Microsoft embeds Copilot features into Windows and pushes on-device inference for tasks like image enhancement, meeting transcription, and live captions.

The 18 percent improvement in battery efficiency is real-world relevant: both machines are thin-and-light designs, and the Surface Laptop's 22.5-hour figure, if it holds up under mixed workloads, would make it one of the longest-lasting Windows laptops available.

Also: a new Surface Mouse

Alongside the two computers, Microsoft announced a Surface Mouse with haptic feedback, an ambidextrous design, and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, priced at $79.99. The haptic feedback brings click customization similar to recent MacBook trackpads to a first-party Surface peripheral.

Both Surface devices are available for pre-order now and ship October 13, 2026, in select markets. Pricing starts at $1,149.99 for the Surface Pro 12-inch and $1,199 for the Surface Laptop 13-inch.
