Google reveals Pixel 11 with Pixel Glow LED ring, sets August 12 launch

Google has officially broken cover on its next flagship phone. The company released its first Pixel 11 teaser on July 15, confirming the product name, showing a device in a new gold colorway, and revealing a hardware feature called Pixel Glow that has been hinted at by leakers for months.

What is Pixel Glow?

Pixel Glow replaces the standard flashlight on the rear camera bar with a circular LED element capable of displaying a full spectrum of colors. Unlike the Dynamic Island's software approach on iPhones, Pixel Glow is a physical light feature. When the phone is placed face-down, it uses subtle colored light on the back to signal incoming notifications or activity — letting users stay informed without flipping the device over.

Google's teaser video shows the ring cycling through colors and indicates it can serve as a visual alert system. The feature appears in the same location as the flashlight on previous Pixel devices, sitting to the right of the main camera cluster on the camera bar.

August 12 launch and pre-orders

Google confirmed the Made By Google event for August 12 at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT, at which point the Pixel 11 lineup will be unveiled alongside new Gemini Intelligence features. Pre-orders for Pixel 11 devices will open immediately on August 12 through the Google Store.

The event calendar invite specifically emphasizes Gemini Intelligence alongside the hardware reveal, signaling that deeper AI integration will be a central selling point for the new lineup. Google has been previewing Gemini-powered features in Android 16 throughout the year, and the Pixel 11 appears set to be the first device to fully leverage them out of the box.

What we know so far

Beyond Pixel Glow and the gold color option, Google has not released specifications or pricing for the Pixel 11 series. Previous leaks have suggested a redesigned camera bar, improved Tensor G5 chip co-developed with Samsung, and tighter Gemini integration throughout the OS. The August 12 event will be the first time Google officially addresses those rumored specifications.
