Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro gets the M6 chip with 30% faster graphics and 24-hour battery at $1,999

Apple announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro on Tuesday, upgrading its entry-level laptop with the M6 chip — the first built on a 2nm process — and delivering meaningful gains over the outgoing M5 model. Pre-orders open today, October 28, with the laptop arriving in stores and at authorized resellers on November 6, 2026.

What the M6 Chip Actually Changes

The M6 features a 12-core CPU — two more cores than the M5 — paired with a 12-core GPU that has Neural Accelerators embedded in each graphics core. Apple claims the GPU delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance over M5 and up to 25% faster on-device AI workloads.

The Neural Engine has been substantially redesigned, moving to a dual 16-core configuration for 32 Neural Engine cores in total, up from 16 in the M5. Apple says this translates to Neural Engine performance up to 1.9x faster than M5. Memory bandwidth reaches 170GB/s on the 24GB and 32GB memory configurations.

For users upgrading from older Intel or M1 hardware, the numbers are more dramatic: Apple claims nearly 12x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI measured as time to first token compared to the M1 MacBook Pro.

What Stays the Same

The 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display carries over, with up to 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and an optional nano-texture coating for glare reduction. The port selection is unchanged: MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The MacBook Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 via Apple’s N1 wireless chip, and can now drive up to two external displays at up to 165Hz, up from 144Hz on the M5 model. The 12MP Center Stage camera, three-mic array, and six-speaker Spatial Audio system remain.

Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours, and Apple says performance is consistent whether running on battery or connected to power — a key advantage over Windows competitors that still throttle on battery.

Pricing and What’s Coming Next

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 in the US, or $1,899 with education pricing. It ships in space black and silver, and comes with macOS 27 (Golden Gate) pre-installed. The base configuration includes 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of SSD storage.

This model is the entry point to Apple’s pro laptop range. Higher-end MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips — expected to feature redesigned OLED touchscreen displays starting at around $2,899 — are anticipated to be announced today at Apple’s invitation-only “Pro and Tell” hands-on event in Los Angeles, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Pre-orders are live at apple.com and the Apple Store app in 35 countries. In-store availability begins November 6, 2026.
